You probably purchase clothes in the colors that you like, so apply that same logic to your home. Peer into your closet and see what color schemes are dominate in your wardrobe. Over time, you may have created several color palettes without even realizing it! This practice will also give you a sense of which colors to stay away from, too. For example, if you seem to have developed an aversion to powder blue, chances are you should avoid that color in your home, too.
No matter what colors you choose, decorate your space from dark to light, vertically. If you are decorating your ceiling, think of the classic color wheel and go one shade lighter than the wall color. This will help the room feel larger by keeping minimal color contrast between the walls and the ceiling.

Thanks
